In 2011 Mobility Choice and the Disabled Photographers’ Society joined forces on a new photographic competition – On the Move – for disabled photographers.
The response was fantastic, with hundreds of entries from all over the UK. Henry Butt from Peterborough won the under-18s category with his excellent capture of a wave beneath a pier, and Nigel Holland from Northants was outright over-18s winner with his Top Fuel Bike action shot. “This was the first competition I have entered so I was especially thrilled to win,” said Nigel. “Drag racing is a big passion and I was trying to get a good panning shot. This is not easy to achieve with my disability so I am delighted it pleased the judges.”
On the Move 2012 launches at the Mobility Roadshow on Thursday 21st June, with a theme of Sport in Motion. There are three age categories – under 12s, 12-18, and over 18. Prizes for the winners include a Merlin Annual Pass for a disabled person and carer, which provides entry to a range of top UK attractions such as the London Eye, LEGOLAND Windsor and Madame Tussauds for 12 months, plus Calumet photographic accessories.
The competition closes on 31st October 2012. Winning and shortlisted images will be printed, mounted and will be on display at the Focus on Imaging show at the NEC Birmingham, 3rd – 6th March 2013, where the competition awards will take place (date to be confirmed). There will also be a public exhibition of the winning images, plus a selection of shortlisted entries, at Calumet Photographic, Drummond Street, near Euston Station, London (date TBC).
Huge thanks to Calumet, Merlin Entertainments and Mary Walker Exhibitions for their fantastic support of the competition.
