A first for the Mobility Roadshow: Test Drives on the Open Road!

This year, for the first time in the show’s history, test drives will take place on public roads around the venue…

The Mobility Roadshow was the first event to offer opportunities to test drive production model vehicles with a variety of adaptations, enabling people with disabilities the rare opportunity to ‘try before you buy’.

Over the past 30 years, thousands of people with disabilities, as well as families and carers, have seized the opportunity to try out a range of vehicle adaptations, brought together for three days on one site. You can take a test drive as a disabled driver or passenger, for whom a safe, comfortable ride is equally important.

This year, for the first time in the show’s history, test drives will take place on public roads around the venue, offering visitors a more authentic driving experience. With the opportunity to try a wide range of marques and models, including drive-from-wheelchair options, this is an excellent opportunity to compare vehicle handling in real traffic conditions.

A carefully planned route, with set off from and return to the Telford International Centre, has been designed in consultation with experienced instructors, who as always will accompany each driver.

You can register in advance for test drives and remember to take your licence on the day.

NOTE: Test drives on the road route at the Mobility Roadshow are open to full licence holders only; however, provisional licence holders are welcome to come and talk to manufacturers and adaptation companies about their needs, and are invited to test drive at Get Going Live! – an event specifically for novice drivers with disabilities – on Saturday 13th July, details at www.getgoinglive.co.uk.or visit the Get Going Live! stand in the Information Village at the Roadshow.

Theraposture is a privately owned, family run business that has been the leading supplier of bespoke and electrically operated, assistive beds, chairs and care cots for over three decades. Regularly recommended by healthcare professionals who include OTs, GPs, Case Managers and Manual handling advisors, Theraposture is seen as first choice for reliable, quality assistive furniture. Continuing this highly respected heritage and new to the UK market, the Theraposture Freedom Rise now provides powered mobility assistance for users as it ingeniously transforms from a fully flat bed to an articulated upright seated position and vice versa. Far superior to ‘chair-bed’ designs, the Freedom Rise is a quality, highly durable bed that transforms into a chair configuration and is part of the new Theraposture Options Scheme. The Options Scheme delivers a cost-effective means to ensuring continued independence even if needs change over time through cost effective upgrading between Theraposture solutions.

David Holtum, Theraposture Managing Director explained: “The Theraposture Freedom Rise Bed represents a breakthrough in the community care sector. We are proud to have introduced this pioneering, problem-solving solution to the UK market at Naidex National alongside our new Options Scheme. We were inundated with interest for the full three days, booked several home assessments and organised product awareness days with many therapists. As our home assessments are free of charge and delivered by trusted Assessors, sensitive to the requirements of potentially vulnerable people, they provide the ideal opportunity for individuals to try the Freedom Rise in a relaxed, familiar environment. Naidex has been a success for us this year and even though the Freedom Rise is selling well, the special introductory discounted price of £2995, that is only available on the first 50 beds sold, may still be available to individuals who contact us in the next week or so.”

The new Theraposture Freedom Rise delivers an innovative, intelligently designed solution to a common problem – getting legs into and out of bed. It has an approximate 23 stone (146kg) user weight capacity and is supplied with a three-year warranty as standard. It will assist an individual from a seated to lying position within 45 seconds in a safe and smooth manner and is operated via a fully lit, ergonomic hand controller. This represents a significant time saving for every transfer, as this independent movement does not require the assistance of a carer or relative. The Freedom Rise is also remarkable in its ability to allow the user to remain in an ideal position, irrespective of the bed angle, so further time consuming and awkward adjustments are not required.

The Theraposture stand at Naidex National 2013 was busy for all three days of the event and showcased the new Freedom Rise bed and Options Scheme

Alongside David on stand B82 during Naidex this year, Liam Braddell, Theraposture Sales Director added: “Further enhancing the high number of enquiries we have received for the Freedom Rise at Naidex 2013, our new Options Scheme has proven to be very popular indeed. As we can now potentially buy-back Theraposture products, the cost of upgrading to a solution with higher specification has been reduced, so clients have access to a suite of products that meet individual needs more specifically and for a longer period of time. Options Scheme products range from the simplistic yet effective Theracare Leg Lifter through to the revolutionary Freedom Rise and the high specification Rotocare and Rotoflex, fully rotational beds. Enhanced by the professional advice given by our trusted Assessors and Theraposture’s no-quibble Suitability Guarantee, the new Options Scheme delivers a new, wider dimension to independence at home.”

New, pioneering and folding TGA Minimo mobility scooter delivers success at Naidex National 2013

The UK’s leading mobility scooter specialist, TGA, successfully launched the innovative, folding Minimo at Naidex National (Stand B50, 30 April – 2 May 2013, NEC), which delivered high levels of interest from visitors due to its pioneering transportability, comfort and safety in the ‘car boot’ scooter class.

Members from the award-winning TGA team proudly launch the pioneering, folding and lightweight Minimo mobility scooter at Naidex National 2013.

Members from the award-winning TGA team proudly launch the pioneering, folding and lightweight Minimo mobility scooter at Naidex National 2013.

Responding to a market trend towards smaller, more compact models, TGA unveiled the new Minimo at Naidex National alongside two related prototypes that deliver new levels of independence with reduced chassis size. Particularly busy across the whole stand on day one and two of the event, the team experienced consistently high levels of interest regarding the Minimo throughout Naidex as it’s revolutionary folding mechanism and lightweight lithium battery were repeatedly demonstrated. Daniel Stone, TGA Managing Director commented: “Coinciding with the successful first appearance of our redesigned stand, Naidex National has once again been a success for TGA thanks to the launch of our Minimo. Despite the impression of smaller visitor numbers overall this year to Naidex, the quality of leads we have generated was still good and the Minimo was a real hit with both trade and consumer visitors. Demonstrating the lightweight, optional lithium battery made a significant impact time and again on all visitors along with how easily it slots onto the scooter. The Minimo brings together an unprecedented level of features in the car boot class and with the market trend towards smaller machines growing rapidly, we believe the Minimo represents the future of compact mobility scooter design.”

Showcased alongside TGA’s award-winning range that included the eye-catching, off-road Vita X, the new Minimo is a revolution in compact, collapsible mobility scooter design. It has been developed in close collaboration with TGA’s specialist manufacturers and is unique in the marketplace. With an overall weight of only a mere 27.3kg (60lbs), it represents one of the most advanced scooters available today that folds and fits into a car and requires no parts to be dismantled for storage. Its revolutionary and straightforward folding mechanism is simply activated by a one-handed operation that requires minimal effort and is completed in seconds. Whether used for a day out in a car or for independence locally, the Minimo only requires a remarkably small amount of storage space when not in use. This radically lightweight, yet robust mobility scooter combines the benefits of strain-free lifting for end users whilst providing impressive drivability and rider comfort. The ‘touch-contact’, optional lithium battery only weighs a mere 2.65kgs (5.85lbs), which ensures users can offload it for charging with genuine ease.

Redefining the foldable scooter, the new TGA Minimo has an extremely spacious chassis with a floor well that provides levels of legroom never previously seen in the car boot class. It has a top speed of 6km (4mph), an impressive range of up to 20km (12 miles), a 270w motor type and a quality 45ah S-Drive controller. Following the precedent set by TGA’s already proven car boot scooter, the Eclipse, the Minimo will hopefully be confirmed shortly as being compliant with bus and tram travel which opens up significant lifestyle benefits to end users.
